Penns Creek Path
No trip to Penns Creek would be complete with a visit to Penns Creek Path. This is the Penns Creek spur of the Mid-State Trail, and it’s simply stunning. Paralleling Penns Creek on an old railroad bed of the Lewisburg and Tyrone Railroad, the trail is beautifully maintained and open for year-round enjoyment. If you’re on a bike and want to tack on a few extra miles and a great destination, try out Secret Path.
The head of the Penns Creek Path is located where Cherry Run merges with Penns Creek. Hike for about two and a half miles before reaching a restored train tunnel. Pass through it and it opens to a trestle that offers the absolute best view of Penns Creek from any vantage. Continue on down a dirt road and you will come to a washed-out second trestle. If you have the desire, though it’s not on the hiking map, you can ford Penns Creek on foot and continue another 2.3 miles and come to another bridge that opens to a second, abandoned train tunnel. It’s a can’t-miss way to hike Penns Creek.
