The Elk Creek Cafe

The Elk Creek is located in Millheim, PA, the hippest small town along Penns Creek. Millheim is peopled by an eclectic mix of locals, fisherpeople, farmers, and relocated city folk who all give off a nutty granola 1960s kind of vibe. The Elk Creek sits at its epicenter. Started as a co-op to spur local farm-to-table agriculture, the Elk Creek has stayed true to its roots (in fact, its tagline is, Rooted in Millheim). It offers daily specials with at least one vegan offering each day. Its beer, while it might not meet the standards of urban hipsters, is enjoyable, and the patrons run the gamut of locals and professors and grad students from nearby Penn State to artists and musicians. It’s cool. Chill and Contemporary. Kind of like a sliver of Ithaca, New York transplanted near Penns Creek.
