The Buffalo Valley Rail Trail
If you’re serious about mileage, consider continuing your ride from Oakwood on Penns Creek to Mifflinburg and from there jump on The Buffalo Valley Rail Trail. The Rail Trail connects Mifflinburg with the college town of Lewisburg, (home of the Bucknell Bison) about a10-mile, well maintained gravel path that cuts through Amish fields and farms. The head of the trail in Mifflinburg starts at Rusty Rail, so plan your trip to end or start with a lunch or dinner in front of their massive outdoor fireplace or exquisitely remodeled dining room. The trail itself follows the old Lewisburg & Tyrone Rail Road so its gentle grade makes for easy, perfect cycling. Once in Lewisburg fuel up Amami Kitchen & Espresso Bar, for pasta bowls, salads and appetizers. To and fro, look out for the Purple Cow, voted the area’s best soft-serve ice cream for years running. It’s just a few hundred feet off the trail.
